The ace of the Boston Red Sox is on the path back to health.

After suffering an elbow injury that caused him to miss the final month and a half of the season (and certainly impacted the entirety of his 2019 campaign), southpaw start Chris Sale has been cleared to start throwing again.

Things got scary for Sale at the end of the year. The injury was so concerning that he ended up paying a visit to Dr. James Andrews, who is known for his expertise on the dreaded Tommy John surgery.

The 2019 season whole was one to forget for Sale. After signing a five-year, $145 million extension before the year, he went on to post a career-worst 4.40 ERA across 25 starts before getting shut down in mid-August.

His clearance to throw again definitely makes things easier on the Red Sox, at least for the moment. It would have been incredibly concerning if he suffered an even more problematic injury before his extension even kicked in.

For now, though, Red Sox fans and executives alike can relax just a tad knowing that Sale is working his way back.
