When the Boston Red Sox fell behind 3-2 in the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds, fans were preparing for the worst. The team had last won it all in 1918, and lost in seven games in both 1946 and 1967 since then.

Game 6 of the seriees was in Boston, and headed to extra innings after the Red Sox scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 6-6. Then, in the bottom of the 12th, legendary Sox catcher Carlton Fisk came to the plate to deliver the biggest flashbulb moment of his Hall of Fame career.

Fisk's walk-off home run remains an iconic moment in sports history after the cameras caught him waving his arms to plead with the ball to stay fair down the left field line after it left his bat. The ball listened and his shot over the Green Monster sent the series to Game 7.

The Red Sox ended up losing the series, but Fisk became a legend in Red Sox lore for his home run and the waving of his arms. His number is retired at Fenway, and he punched his ticket to Cooperstown in his second year of eligibility in 2000 -- but he'll always be rembered for The Wave.
