It's been well over a month since the Boston Red Sox shockingly opted to dismiss President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski in the midst of his club mustering one of the worst World Series title defenses in MLB history.

The Red Sox have subsequently slow-played their search to fill the vacancy. That, or they've kept any potential progress behind closed doors.

Well, ESPN's Jeff Passan has confirmed that Boston has zeroed in on Tampa Bay Rays Vice President of Baseball Operations, Chaim Bloom, who is reported to have already interviewed with the club for the position.

This news certainly comes out of nowhere, and it should be viewed as a significant win for Red Sox fans.

Bloom has helped formulate a squad that has won 96 and 90 games in the last two seasons while working with MLB's lowest payroll. The work he has done with the Rays is nothing sort of sensational and he should be one of the most sought-after executives in the league.

How serious are the Red Sox are with hiring Bloom? Well, The Athletic's Chad Jennings understands that the club's general manager search is quickly drawing to a close.

The reports make it seem like Bloom is the current favorite for the position. As always, however, stay tuned for any updates on reported progress in talks with Bloom or if another candidate emerges.
