Ravens Sign Player With One of the Craziest Names Ever
By Sean Facey

The Baltimore Ravens made a depth move on defense on Tuesday, but it's the player's name that has fans taking note.
Defensive back Fish Smithson, the proud owner of one of the craziest names ever, in the league or otherwise, is set to join the team in the waning days of the preseason.
We have signed DB Fish Smithson.

Very simple proclamation right there.
That's right, a man whose first name is actually "Fish" is on an NFL team. The thing that makes it so strange is the fact that it's juxtaposed with a totally bland, create-a-player style mashup last name in "Smithson."
It sounds made up, like the nonsense Madden name given to a player who crossed the picket lines and was kicked out of the Players Association, or a childhood nickname that slowly but surely morphed into his actual name.
Sorry but Fish Smithson is def the name of a deadball-era pitcher known for trying to brawl with any fans who heckled him https://t.co/XeqE1WzKp5

But there's more to him than just his name. He's had a hard time finding a true home in the NFL.
An undrafted rookie free agent out of Kansas back in 2017, he appeared in two games for the Washington Redskins, but was ultimately waived and then cut in 2018. Since then, he's bounced around from team to team, joining the practice squads of the Cardinals and Chargers. He signed with the Jaguars on July 26, but he was cut less than two weeks later.

Been tough for Fish to hook on with anyone, it appears.
Now he's with Baltimore. He deserves some respect for earning himself yet another shot, especially with an amazing name like that.
Is this just Ish Smith in a wig?
