The Rams are in a lose-lose situation with Todd Gurley.

Considering how last season ended with the star running back--with CJ Anderson stealing his spot in the Rams' backfield due to a mysterious knee injury--there's nothing Sean McVay can say to convince the public Gurley is in good health. We just need to see it over the course of a full season.

Yet, if McVay keeps quiet, then we fear the worst. So, when asked about Gurley's status on Sunday, McVay gave a vague, yet somewhat positive, update.

2019 will determine whether the Rams' long-term strategy with Gurley in tenable. Come next offseason, LA will have the opportunity to cut Gurley loose and save over $10 million, clearing up room for them to fill out the roster as they see fit.

That's an enticing offer, especially with Gurley's injuries and recent trends at the running back position. The success of a journeyman back like Anderson late last season exposed Gurley, for better or worse. Should the former Georgia running back miss significant time yet again this season, that choice might be made for LA.

But for now, McVay is adamant Gurley is progressing nicely.
