3 Potential Playoff Teams That Gain the Most From Oregon's Loss to Arizona State

Oregon's loss to Arizona State on Saturday night was entirely unexpected in what had been a predictable Week 13 of college football. While the College Football Playoff committee will have their hands full making the necessary changes to this week's standings, in the long term, these three teams gain the most from the Ducks' defeat which all but eliminates Justin Herbert and Co. from the conversation.

Oh yes, Nick Saban and Co. might find a way to sneak into the College Football Playoff yet again. With a win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl, Alabama will be in prime position to take over the No. 4 spot in the rankings assuming LSU beats Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

2. Utah Utes

Turns out Oregon wasn't the best team in the Pac-12 after all. While Utah sits at No. 7 in the country, should they win the Pac-12 Championship Game, they could sneak into the College Football Playoff depending on how the committee views their strength of schedule and conference slate.

Despite a loss to Kansas State earlier in the season, the Sooners can still jump into the Playoff conversation if they win out, including the Big 12 Championship, and hold enough weight with the committee to jump a Pac 12 champion. If Jalen Hurts and Co. win impressively down the stretch, it's certainly possible.
