3 Players Who Definitely Won't Be on the Steelers Roster Next Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers fought through adversity in 2019 and did well to finish with an 8-8 record without Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback most of the way, and though he should be good to go in 2020, the team just didn't have the kind of year that lives up to typically lofty standards. Changes will need to be made to retool the roster for 2020, and these three players in particular will likely be gone as part of that effort.

3. Devlin Hodges

The man known as "Duck" looked to be a suitable replacement at quarterback in some stretches. He wasn't making too many mistakes and had the team fighting for a playoff spot, but he only managed one touchdown over the final three weeks of the sason. With Devlin Hodges potentially behind Mason Rudolph, Paxton Lynch, and Big Ben on the depth chart, he's likley to be the odd man out.

2. Artie Burns

Artie Burns was a 2016 first-round pick for the Steelers, but was not given a vote of confidence when his fifth-year option was declined. He hasn't had an interception since 2017 and has not made much of an impact the past two years. He isn't a total bust, but expect him not to receive a second contract from a Pittsburgh team that must be careful with its available cap space.

1. Bud Dupree

Bud Dupree made over $9 million in 2019 and is set to hit free agency. He had a great season and earned his money, but is just going to make too much for the Steelers to keep him. He should get a deal near the top of the linebacker market, and the Steelers already have too much money committed elsewhere on the roster. This loss will sting in 2020, but these are the breaks.
