Pirates Trade RHP Nick Kingham to the Blue Jays

A former top pitching prospect is on the move Thursday, as the Pittsburgh Pirates traded righty Nick Kingham to the Toronto Blue Jays. Kingham is in the midst of a very disappointing second major league season, so it's no surprise the Pirates' patience in the 27-year-old is wearing thin.

In return, the Pirates will receive cash considerations from the Blue Jays, per Ben Nicholson-Smith of sportsnet.ca:

Injuries derailed Kingham's path to the majors after he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft. At one time, he was a top-7 prospect in the Pirates farm system, but a torn UCL in 2014 cost him the better part of multiple seasons of development.

Since arriving in the majors in 2018, Kingham has not seen the success the Pirates hoped for. This season has been brutal for the righty, as he's pitched to an atrocious 9.87 ERA in 34.2 innings as both a starter and reliever.

It's clear that the Pirates have seen enough to feel he's not a part of their future. This is a solid low-risk move for the Blue Jays, who will hope that Kingham can tap into the potential he once showed and become a valuable piece of their future.
