Patriots to Reportedly Release Special Teamer Jordan Richards With Signings Still Pending
By Adam Weinrib

One special teams ace en route, and another out the door.
After the reported arrival of ex-Cardinals special teams ace Justin Bethel, the Patriots have let DB/fellow special teamer Jordan Richards go.
The Patriots are releasing DB/special teamer Jordan Richards, per league source.

The high-dollar move to bring Mohamed Sanu on board, however, is still anyone's guess, hence the reason Bill Belichick has no interest in discussing it, as of now.
Neither the Mohamed Sanu trade nor the Justin Bethel signing were processed today on the NFL transaction wire.

The Patriots have another day to decide how they'll create cap room to add Sanu.
There's another 24 hours left on that clock, but for now, it seems that Richards has more directly given way to Bethel in the hierarchy.
The Stanford safety was originally a Patriot from 2015-2017, before bouncing to the Falcons and Raiders, returning to New England only a few weeks back. He's got a Super Bowl LI ring in his trophy case, but exclusively played on kick coverage since returning in 2019.
Per @FieldYates, the Patriots have informed core special teamer Jordan Richards that they are releasing him. Richards joined the team a few weeks ago and played exclusively in the kicking game.

Bethel, on the other hand, was recently released by the Ravens, but nabbed three Pro Bowl nods consecutively from 2013 to 2015 while with the Cardinals.
