With the Patriots bringing back linebacker Jamie Collins, someone unfortunately had to go.

To make room for the returning Collins, the New England Patriots released second-year defensive tackle Frank Herron.

The 24-year-old LSU product never saw NFL action during his time with the Patriots.

An undrafted rookie free agent from last spring, Herron signed with the Patriots but was ultimately released. After spending some time on the practice squad in Seattle, he re-joined the eventual Super Bowl champions.

Though not an impact player, Herron did pick up a couple of sacks during his time at LSU, and he could potentially prove to be an important depth piece if any team is willing to give him the chance to play.

Collins, of course, won two Super Bowls with the Patriots before he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in the middle of the 2016 season.

The former second-round pick played all 16 games for the Browns last year, picking up four sacks and 104 total tackles as well as a forced fumble and an interception.
