Patriots' Recent Drafts Might Actually Prove Bill Belichick Has Lost His Touch

The Patriots stunning loss to the upstart Tennessee Titans in the Wild Card Round of the 2020 NFL playoffs seemed to signal the end of the New England Patriots dynasty. Tom Brady leaving the team to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looks like the final blow to their reign.

One man's failings could be seen as the most responsible for New England's fall from grace. Yup, we're talking about Bill Belichick.

Since Belichick and Brady joined the Patriots organization, the team drafted star after star, including tight end Rob Gronkowski in 2010, and defensive tackle Richard Seymour in 2001.

Recently though, the Pats draft record has been anything but stellar.

In the past six years, only two teams have failed to draft a pro-bowler: the Cincinnati Bengals (2-14-0 in 2019) and the New England Patriots. In that time span, Belichick and the Patriots drafted numerous duds, including 2018's first-round pick Isaiah Wynn. The injury prone offensive tackle has only appeared in eight games for the Pats so far.

The Patriots best recent draft picks are no longer on the team. Quarterback Jacoby Brisset, drafted in 2016, was traded for Phillip Dorsett, who only caught 53.7% of passes for a receiver desperate Patriots offense.

Jimmy Garoppolo, a quarterback drafted by New England in the second round of the 2014 Draft, just led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance this year.

It seems that Belichick's ability to gauge talent is slipping, and nothing could be worse for a Pats team in need of a new talent.
