Pat Shurmur Would Be Making a Major Gaffe Rushing Saquon Barkley Back Too Early
By Adam Weinrib

We know Saquon Barkley wants to be active, Coach, but there's a reason why...you're the coach.
In a set of statements meant to send Giants fans on a Google search for "Kerosene" and "Where to Buy Pat Shurmur Jerseys," the team's head coach waffled and remained evasive while discussing whether or not Barkley, currently rehabbing a high ankle sprain, would play just TWO WEEKS after his initial injury.
Pat Shurmur won’t rule Saquon Barkley out from returning THIS week. ? #Giants #Vikings

Thought to be sidelined somewhere between four and eight weeks, this would obliterate the normal (and even advanced) timeline for rehabilitation, and would also be a monstrous overestimation of New York's current NFL relevancy.
Daniel Jones has been excellent, and also flawed. The defense has been regenerative, but against the Redskins. There are plenty of positives here! There are not, however, contention-esque positives, nor are there any reasons to supplant Wayne Gallman ahead of schedule and risk complications. Complications are, after all, a thing humans can sometimes face, and the media guide assures me Saquon is one of those.
Pat Shurmur: Some people’s doctors had Saquon out six weeks. Not my doctors. #Giants

Mr. Shurmur...who are your doctors?
I, for one, will not have this franchise's progress impeded by the medical derelictions of Dr. William Van Nostrand. Never forget Odell Beckham Jr.'s hip flare-up based on one preseason hit, and the repeated complications that followed from always pushing it one step too far. Hurry back, Saquon. But not quicker than you need to.
