Whomever becomes the next head coach of the Carolina Panthers better be a big fan of quarterback Cam Newton, because they could lose the locker room before they even unpack their things if they decide to get rid of him.

A report in the Charlotte Observer claims that the Panthers players could either mutiny or demand to find a way out of Carolina if the team decides to part ways with the former MVP.

The soon-to-be 31-year-old could only muster two games for the Panthers this season due to a nagging shoulder injury. Carolina could cut him this offseason, and the dead money in the salary cap would be minimal, especially when given the scope of Cam's contract.

Carolina could have moved on from him of they had a successor in place, but the subpar play of Kyle Allen and Will Grier in relief proved that Newton is still clearly the best option under center.

The Panthers have interviewed Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy for their head coaching job, and he allegedly likes Newton and wants to coach him up should he get the job.

If the locker room gets their way, No. 1 will be back behind center for the Panthers in 2020.
