The San Diego Padres have acquired a flame-throwing relief prospect to add to their up-and-coming pitching staff..

In a trade with the San Francisco Giants, the Padres have obtained Franklin Van Gurp, who has some eye-opening numbers.

Van Gurp, who was at the Giants Single-A affiliate in Augusta, has 40 strikeouts in just 28.2 innings pitched.

The Pads sent Alex Dickerson to the Giants in exchange for the right-hander.

Van Gurp has always been a pitcher who could send batters packing. In 2017 at Florida International, he struck out 32 batters in only 21.2 innings pitched.

After the 2017 college season, Van Gurp was drafted in the 25th round (756th overall) by San Francisco. The right hander has a career 3.34 ERA in 126.2 innings pitched with 12.29 strikeouts per nine innings in the minors.

San Diego has proven to possess impressive scouting when it comes to young pitching, so perhaps the Giants regret surrendering Van Gurp in this deal.
