The San Diego Padres have an All-Star closer in Kirby Yates and one of the most fun lineups in the league to watch on a daily basis featuring Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Hunter Renfroe and Franmil Reyes. However, their lack of starting pitching has them headed for another sub-.500 season.

In order to remedy this, San Diego has been going heavy after New York Mets starter Noah Syndergaard, with the team reportedly having offered several major league players in exchange for Thor's services.

It remains unclear what "major league players" means in this context. That could mean established starters like Renfroe or Reyes, both of whom have been floated in potential trades.

It could also stand for highly-touted prospects who have just recently made their major league debuts, like Cuban lefty Adrian Morejon, slugging first baseman Josh Naylor, or infielder Luis Urias, who has been struggling mightily but went deep during last night's game.

Brodie van Wagenan will likely ask for at least two or three top prospects in exchange for his star pitcher. Luckily, the Padres have seven Top-100 prospects, according to MLB.com.

The Padres may not be a team gearing up for an October run this year, but they have arguably the best collection of major league assets and top prospects to get a Syndergaard deal done.
