The signing of Smith indicates that the 7-1 Packers are not content with their current kick and punt return situations as Chandon Sullivan and Darrius Shepherd (who was released) have not done much to instill the Super Bowl contenders with confidence over the past few weeks.
Smith was the primary kick and punt returner for Green Bay from Weeks 3-5 after being claimed off waivers from Kansas City.
Tremon Smith was PFF's 2nd highest graded KR in 2018.

The Chiefs experimented with Smith on offense in the preseason with (4) snaps as a HB and (19) as a WR.
In 2018, 62 of 73 defensive snaps came as a slot corner.#GoPackGo https://t.co/01MQlUEyg1
According to Pro Football Focus, Smith was the second-best kick returner during the 2018 season, receiving a grade of 90 on his way to earning PFWA All-Rookie Team honors.
Now that Smith is back in the fold, expect the Pack to look at him to make an impact on special teams.
