Packers Fans Criticizing Cowboys for Hiring Mike McCarthy Truly Know Nothing

Who knew Packers Twitter to be a dark place?! I thought all these Green Bay supporters and Wisconsin natives were an optimistic bunch.

But perhaps when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys and former head coaches, that's not the case.

On Monday it was announced former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy would be joining the Cowboys on a five-year deal to take over for Jason Garrett, and it wasn't exactly met with kindness among Packer faithful.

Sure, Aaron Rodgers was a big factor, but are we forgetting McCarthy ran the offense, which finished in the top 10 nine times?

Why would the Cowboys need good luck when they have a high-powered offense in need of some better guidance in addition to a balanced defense?

....maybe? Who knows.

What we do know is that the Packers rarely had a stable defense to support McCarthy's offense, and general manager Ted Thompson drew the ire of just about every GB fan because of his unwillingness to spend -- especially on defense -- when the team needed it most.

McCarthy had THREE top-10 defenses during his 12-plus seasons and managed to win a Super Bowl and reach a conference championship (he lost in the Wild Card round with the other). Two out of those three instances are certainly impressive for the circumstances.

One could also argue that maybe McCarthy's defenses could have benefitted from a more balanced offense that featured more of a rushing attack, but then we'd be sitting here yelling about how Aaron Rodgers isn't throwing the ball enough. Welcome to the NFL.

All in all, McCarthy will undoubtedly help Dak Prescott further develop as a quarterback and grow the Cowboys' attack. He has an established top running back in Ezekiel Elliott, so maybe he'll budge in his ways and run the ball more than he has in the past. We don't know what he's going to do, but to scoff at the relationship before it's even began is irresponsible, especially after seeing McCarthy's overall body of work.

It might be best to just focus on the playoffs, Packers fans.
