Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith has sent a clear message to his team: the Beavers will not put up with any kind of racism or hateful speech at any time. Tight end Rocco Carley has learned this the hard way.

Late Wednesday night, disturbing audio surfaced of Carley using racial slurs and laughing about it. This included several uses of the N-word (Warning: the audio below contains explicit and disturbing content).

Shortly after this video made its way to the internet, Carley released a statement apologizing for his behavior and said it was filmed three years ago. Several of his now-former Oregon State teammates called him out on Twitter for what he did. Smith took things a step further and dismissed him from the team.

Carley arrived to Oregon State in 2019 and redshirted his first campaign. His player page on the OSU website has already been removed.

Both Smith and AD Scott Barnes decided the best course of action was to remove Carley from the team immediately. The 6-6 TE tried to save his college football career with a quick apology, but it was too little, too late.
