Ohio State Getting Sued for Trying Stop Sports Media Company From Trademarking 'O' Logo
By Sam Dunn

The Ohio State Buckeyes made headlines earlier this year when they attempted to trademark "The." Yes, folks, as in "THE Ohio State University."
Well, reason prevailed and that effort obviously fell flat. That didn't stop OSU from continuing to go to outrageous ends to try to protect its perceived brand, however. Now, they could end up in court over their efforts to stop sports media brand Overtime from trademarking its simple "O" logo.

Guys, this is a bit much.
Seriously, you be the judge.
Sure, the Scarlet and Gray "O" is directly associated with the Buckeyes. If any brand stepped up and tried to attain the protected legal rights to do something similar with the same color scheme, that might be a problem. But trying to prevent Overtime, who have nothing remotely resembling the same colors or stylistic conventions, from securing their own authentically separate brand is just frivolous and absurd.
