Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith has long teased the possibility of rekindling its football rivalry with Alabama, and on Tuesday the dreams of fans in Columbus became a reality when it was reported that the two flagship college football programs scheduled a home-and-home series for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

The announcement adds to what was already a gauntlet of future home-and-home slates against Power 5 schools for the Buckeyes. Over the next 11 seasons, they will go to battle against the likes of Oregon, Notre Dame, Washington, Texas, Alabama and Georgia.

Bruh.

When you consider how deep and daunting the Big Ten has been in recent seasons, Ohio State deserves massive credit for making its out-of-conference schedule so formidable. Four of those programs -- Oregon, Notre Dame, Alabama and Georgia -- are perennial contenders for the College Football Playoff.

Washington and Texas are no slouches, either. The former has logged at least 10 wins in three of the last four seasons and the latter has made significant strides under the tutelage of head coach Tom Herman in the wake of the disaster that was the Charlie Strong era.

As if playing in the Big Ten wasn't enough, the Buckeyes can now say they boast the most intimidating home-and-home match-ups of any Power 5 program in the country. Only time will tell if it works to their benefit.
