UPDATE: Hey, Matt Rhule is joining the Carolina Panthers! Fun times.

All signs are pointing to Baylor head coach Matt Rhule becoming the next head coach of the New York Giants. However, if general manager Dave Gettleman manages to bungle this hire, they could have a fallback plan that plenty of fans would consider outlandish.

The Giants will reportedly go after the recently fired Jason Garrett if they miss out on Rhule, per Pro Football Talk.

Yes, a man who coached against the Gaints twice a year for a decade.

Garrett went 88-70 with the Cowboys, winning a couple of playoff games in what was still a disappointing tenure for him and the Dallas faithful alike. Giants fans who spent the last decade mocking Garrett's inability to nail in-game decisions that required him to deviate from the gameplan he drew up during the week might have to get used to him roaming the sidelines at MetLife Stadium, as tough as that may be.

That is, of course, if the G-Men manage to blow it with Rhule like the Jets did last year.

For as much crap as Garrett has had to put up with over the last few years, the guy has proven that he knows his way around a locker room. He'll land on his feet with a coaching job somewhere else if he does want to get back into coaching right away, and the Giants could, oddly enough, be a solid place to revitalize his career.

Or... he could go 8-8 for three straight years. Such is the Jason Garrett way.
