By Tyler Kemp

When former Oklahoma and Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts was drafted in the second round by the Eagles, many of the Philadelphia faithful were critical of the pick. Hurts’ former coach with the Tide, Nick Saban, actually had some interesting comments which could change your mind about how Hurts will fit in the City of Brotherly Love.

Saban knows that Hurts has seen the peaks and valleys of being a college quarterback in his young career. As detailed, Hurts held a 26-2 record at ‘Bama before Saban made the transition to Tua Tagovailoa as his starter. In addition, Saban also mentioned how Hurts’ athleticism and overall ability can be used to Philly’s advantage on offense.
"Jalen Hurts can't throw." In 2019:

11.3 yards per attempt (1st in FBS)
16.3 yards per completion (1st)
84% Comp pct intermediate throws (1st)
62% Comp pct 11+ yards downfield (2nd)
94.4 QBR on pass plays (3rd)
12 Pass TD vs pressure (3rd)
Narrative.
It is all speculation as of right now, but Philadelphia fans should at least give Hurts a shot before they come down on him so harshly. If head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Howie Roseman decided to invest such a high pick in Hurts, Pederson has to have something in mind in order to maximize the Oklahoma product's talent. Trust the process, Philly. It’s going to all work out.
