NFL Owners Are Going to Ruin Football With Latest Buzz About Playoff Format

Leave it to Roger Goodell and the NFL owners to bring even more sadness upon us during such a difficult time. With major changes coming to the NFL starting next season, the list of grievances is expected to include two additional teams entering the postseason each winter.
With the new 14-team format expected to be finalized this week, seven teams from each conference will now have a shot to take home the Lombardi Trophy. Folks, this is a complete and total calamity.

With 14 teams in the playoffs, only one team from each conference would be getting a bye in the Wild Card round instead of two. In addition, there's already talks, per insider Dan Graziano, of the NFL eventually expanding to a 16-team postseason.
You're kidding, right? Half the teams in the NFL are going to make it to the playoffs? Why don't we just hand out participation trophies and postgame brownies to everyone on the field while we're at it. Starting everything during the 2020 season, which is already significantly under duress, would only add salt to the wound.
Statistically speaking, teams with a first-round bye have a much stronger shot of reaching the Super bowl. With this new layout, the major beneficiary would be the No. 1 seed in the AFC and NFC, respectively. Plus, do we really want more 8-8 and 7-9 teams sniffing postseason play after a year of mediocrity?
Changes can often be a good thing in sports. In the NFL, though, it appears the owners are just trying to mix things up for the hell of it. A 14-team playoff system isn't needed. What's wrong with the current way things are? If it's not broken, don't fix it.
