Colin Kaepernick's workout with the NFL took plenty of twists and turns on Saturday, with late drama threatening to scuttle the whole thing. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback decided to move both the time and location of the workout not long before it was due to begin, and the league wasn't very happy about it.

In response to the change, the NFL released a lengthy, pointed statement in which they seemingly washed their hands of any responsibility for the results of the workout.

The statement places great emphasis on the amount of teams that were set to be in attendance and the painstaking lengths that the NFL apparently went to in order to host the workout for Kaepernick in the first place.

It then concludes by saying that his "decision has no effect on his status in the league" and that "he remains an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with any club."

In short, if Kaepernick doesn't end up making his way onto an NFL roster, the league insists that he'll have no one to blame but himself. Sure, guys, no need to let facts get in the way of a good narrative.

The point of this statement is for the NFL to say that they did everything in their power to give Kaepernick a fair shot despite mountains of evidence over the last three years suggesting quite the contrary. It mentions over and over how it allegedly catered to the QB's demands before he ultimately did his own thing.

Keep an eye on the PR war surrounding the workout. The official story has yet to be written, and there are more than a few axes to grind here.
