VIDEO: Newtown Wins State Championship on Final Play 7 Years to the Date After Sandy Hook Shooting

The incredible power of sports never ceases to amaze us. Many a time, the games athletes play in can be so much more than just a competition of sheer ability. They can have meaning that stretches far beyond the field of play; for not just players, but coaches, families and even entire states and nations. This was the case with Newtown high school's incredible victory over Darien in Conn.'s Class LL state championship football game Saturday. It was seven years ago to the date that the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting ravaged Newtown, and left the country shocked and confused. Now, in what seems like it couldn't have been a more opportune time, Newtown is reveling in celebration.

7 years ago in Newtown, CT was an unspeakably awful day. 7 years to the day, kids from that town and school did this. Sports are amazing sometimes. https://t.co/Tko89MRnSj
