The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers were scheduled to play in the Staples Center in primetime this Tuesday, just a few days after Lakers legend, Hall of Famer, and cultural icon Kobe Bryant passed away at the age of 41 alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.

Rather than force two emotional teams to play in the building the Kobe built, the league announced that the Lakers-Clippers game gas been postponed.

Major props to the NBA for doing this.

The league did not cancel any of the games that were scheduled to take place yesterday, which could have presented a problem given how some arenas were mostly full and games were just minutes away when most of the details had been confirmed.

This unfortunate arrangement led to several honorary 24-second and 8-second violations at the start of games, in honor of Bryant's two jersey numbers. It also led to some players, like Kyrie Irving, to skip their scheduled game due to an overwhelming amount of grief.

Whenever an entire league is in a ubiquitous state of bereavement, the league needs to step in and give the players the time and resources to cope with this most unexpected and devastating of losses. Major credit to the NBA for giving both LA teams time to heal.
