The NBA Allowing the Grizzlies to Hold Onto Andre Iguodala This Long Just to Make a Trade is Absurd

Andre Iguodala could give a damn about trying to help Ja Morant, Brandon Clarke and Jaren Jackson develop, as he is refusing to play for the Memphis Grizzlies, the team he was traded to in a salary cap-clearing move by the Golden State Warriors.

Iguodala has sat out the entire season to this point, and he is reportedly prepared to not play at all in 2019 unless the Grizzlies trade him to a contender.

What's more absurd? The NBA has allowed this to drag on for as long as it has. Iguodala didn't want to get traded to a non-contender in a salary dump, and the fact the Grizzlies just didn't buy him out at this point and instead are waiting to get value for him in a trade is irrational, to say the least.

A former star with the Philadelphia 76ers, Iggy spent the last six seasons in Golden State. While he only averaged 7.3 points per game, he was the veteran glue that helped mold a young Warriors team into a group that could sustain success for the better part of a decade.

Then again, the veteran is scheduled to earn nearly $17 million this season and it's a strange move for him not to play yet demand the team he is employed by either trade him to a better one or still honor his contract.

While it's totally fair to question why Iguodala is still demanding the Grizzlies pay him despite not playing a game for a young team fighting for a playoff spot, it appears unlikely he'll ever step on the court for Memphis, but that should have been the case a lot earlier in the year.
