The first update of All-Star voting for the American League has been released, and there are several prospective first-time All-Stars leading the way at their respective positions

In the infield, you have some deserving first timers getting some love, including New York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit and Los Angeles Angels second baseman Tommy La Stella, both leading their categories. Even the names chasing them are somewhat unexpected!

Voit has been the clear-cut best first baseman in the AL thus far, as he's hitting .263 with 15 home runs and 41 RBI. However, the emergence of La Stella has come out of the blue, and with the injury to Jose Altuve, this would be a well-deserved honor for him, as he's hitting .315 with 15 home runs and 39 RBI.

Gary Sanchez has bounced back nicely behind the plate, as he's hitting .260 with 19 home runs and 37 RBI. When he's rolling offensively, there isn't a catcher in AL who will overtake him in the voting (though James McCann, he of the shocking .325 average, can try).

Minnesota's Jorge Polanco is another one of those first-timers who have been impressive to start the season; he's hitting .333 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI. Shortstop is a loaded position, but you can't argue with how good Polanco has been.

The voters have the outfield mix spot on, as Mike Trout leads all AL players in voting with 951,002 votes. Following Trout in the outfield spots are Houston's George Springer and Tampa Bay's Austin Meadows, both of whom are in the thick of the MVP race.

Boston's J.D. Martinez is the club's lone starter at the moment for the DH spot, as he's hitting .296 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI. It's hard to imagine that changing as the voting continues.
