It seems as if the Mets can officially write the Red Sox in behind the Yankees and Astros on the list of Teams That Could Make Them Look Stupid by Pillaging Their Talent.

Per reports, it seems Boston has plenty of confidence it can make an impact bullpen move before the trade deadline, buoyed by this weekend's series win against the Yankees.

Many in the industry are starting to connect the dots, which appear to lead first-year Mets closer Edwin Diaz to Boston. Per Buster Olney, slugging prospect Bobby Dalbec would likely be involved.

If Dalbec (or Casas) goes, that's something Red Sox Nation will simply have to stomach; after all, who needs a third base prospect in Dalbec who is older than your entrenched starter, Rafael Devers?

On the surface, the Mets surrendering Diaz swiftly after dealing the top portion of their farm for him this offseason would be questionable at best, disastrous at worst. But this is the Mets. They just dealt for Marcus Stroman and imported a win-now mentality despite their poor defensive infield, just for a chance to block the Yankees. Why wouldn't they deal an elite closer within the NYY's division, too?

Coming off an exemplary 2018 season, Diaz's ERA on the campaign is 4.81. Might as well start fitting the burgundy B on his cap now.
