The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and center fielder Mike Trout celebrated signing Anthony Rendon by mocking some not-so-brilliant journalism.

Trout and the Angels rejoiced in Rendon's signing by imitating Angels beat writer Jeff Fletcher, who set the world aflame with some late-night Winter Meetings emoji tweets a few days prior.

Trout tweeted the eyes emoji just after the Angels signed Rendon to a seven-year deal, prompting the Angels to respond with the pancake emoji.

For reference, Fletcher, for seemingly no apparent reason, tweeted out a series of random emojis just a couple days earlier, making the Angels' Twitter account all the more brilliant.

It also doesn't help to see a beat writer for a high budget MLB team tweet the glancing eyes emoji in the middle of a hectic free agency period, before finding out they didn't sign someone big. You almost would've figured they'd signed Gerrit Cole by looking at the eye emoji, at that point. Kudos to Trout and the Angels for taking him to task, in tongue-in-cheek fashion.

Well, now that Trout has a serious hitter in his prime next to him in the batting order, maybe it's finally time the best player in baseball can get deep into the postseason. Cue "Fall Leaf" emoji.
