Mike Gundy Reveals He Turned Down Desperate Tennessee 3 Separate Times for Head Coach Vacancy
By Mark Powell

This mullet don't play no games.
Mike Gundy likes to party, as his hair style might suggest, and with that comes oh-so-much flirtation. Despite comments made on Wednesday stating that he wants to remain in Stillwater for the rest of his coaching career, Gundy admitted that he flirted -- and eventually turned down -- the Tennessee Vols head gig on three (3!) separate occasions.
We repeat, fittingly, for the third time: 3! That's a lot!
Three times is a lot. https://t.co/b5iKN6o7X5

“I’ve had that [Tennessee] job offered three different times…Tennessee put together an unbelievable package [in 2018], and it’s hard to tell somebody no when that happens. But I made the right decision,” Gundy said.
Because he's a man.
If you think this reeks of desperation on Tennessee's part, you'd be right. However, we can't blame the struggling program down in Knoxville for trying to make a big-time hire, and they offered Gundy upwards of six years and $42 million to land him.
Sources: Mike Gundy has decided to remain at Oklahoma State. He met w/Tennessee officials Tuesday in Dallas. Gundy reportedly had a 6-year, $42 million deal from Tennessee, but will remain at his alma mater https://t.co/m1igbKIEpx

The Vols would eventually tab then-Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt to be their next head coach after revolting over the decision to hire Greg Schiano.
Gundy, meanwhile, parlayed his flirtation with Tennessee into a contract bonus from Oklahoma State. That, my friends, is how you play the field.
