Former Chicago Bears tight and and head coach Mike Ditka has always been known as a character, but he was in the rarest of rare form in this clip from the television program "Bears Extra" in 1987. Ditka and host Johnny Morris went through film from the previous week's game against the Chiefs, and Ditka's commentary is hilarious. Perhaps there's just a chance that it was influenced by a potent beverage of some kind.

Ditka is clearly three sheets to the wind in this clip, making some of the soundbites laugh-out-loud funny. "We'll figure it out next week," he says when asked if tight end Emery Moorehead would return to the lineup for the next game. Great insight, boss man!

The host tries to keep Ditka on subject as much as possible, but is unable to corral him. They even get in a spat over giving Mike Singletary the responsibility of covering a running back.

We all know Mike Ditka is a legendary player and coach with Hall of Fame credentials, but he's got an even more legendary personality. From his inimitable press conferences to wayward incidents like this one, Mike Ditka is a special type of folk hero.

In 1987, the Bears went on to finish 11-4, finishing first in the NFC Central. They were knocked out by Joe Gibbs' soon-to-be Super Bowl champion Washington Redskins in the Divisional Round. Nonetheless, Mike Ditka is an singular treasure to football fans everywhere.
