Miguel Andujar was ready to give his heart and soul to the Yankees this season, but things just didn't break his way.

The New York Yankees third baseman opted for surgery on his torn labrum after trying in vain to recover naturally, and the official statement on the matter from his agent just compounded the heartbreak of losing him for the year.

"Miguel tried to give as much to the team as he could but he realized that he just wasn't physically able to deal with the pain and still be as productive as we all know he can be," read the statement from Ulises Cabrera.

It's depressing to know that Andujar fought tooth and nail to make his way back to the lineup but that the pain was just too much to overcome. Even though surgery was ultimately the right option to preserve his career, that doesn't make it any less disheartening to see him sidelined.

The 2019 AL Rookie of the Year runner-up is expected to take between four and six months to recover fully.

Andujar was a vital part of New York's offense last year, slashing .297/.328/.527 with 27 home runs and 92 RBIs.

Hopefully, the phenom makes a speedy recovery and comes back just like the rookie sensation he was in 2018.
