Miguel Andujar Getting Surgery Now is Best Option for Yankees' Future

The Yankees did their best to salvage Miguel Andujar's season, but a healthy and productive year just doesn't seem to be in the cards for him.

At this point, Andujar getting surgery on his injured labrum is the best option for both parties, most notably the future of the team.

Things just haven't worked out for Andujar since he returned from the injured list. He's slashing .088/.111/.088 in 35 plate appearances following his recovery, and he looks lost both at the plate and in the field. Now he's back on the IL.

With the depth that the Yankees have, it just doesn't make any sense to continuously risk future harm to the 24-year-old.

Fill-in infielder Gio Urshela is playing out of his mind, batting .341 with a .902 OPS in 103 plate appearances with New York. Offseason acquisition DJ LeMahieu has been equally impressive, posting a .384 OBP all while playing superb defense.

Couple the two of them with the fact that shortstop Didi Gregroius is bound to return from the injured list in the near future, and it almost feels insane that Andujar should even set foot on an MLB field when he's not 100%.

The Yankees can go without Andujar for 2019. They have the depth to handle it, and the surgery is an investment in the future of the franchise. Bite the bullet and get this done now before it gets worse.
