Michigan Torches Ohio State on Twitter Over Incredibly Lame Trademark of 'The'

Ohio State's attempting to trademark the word "the" has been received about as well as you'd think, and now their biggest rivals are joining in on the fun.

The University of Michigan flamed the Buckeyes by jokingly trademarking the word "of" on Twitter.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. It's hilarious to see Michigan respond to the controversy. There's nothing better to stoke the flames of the rivalry than a savage roast from one school to the other.

But this shouldn't distract from just how ridiculous the whole trademark situation is. Trademarking one of the most popular words in the English language in order to "vigorously protect their brand" sounds absurd in theory and is just as ridiculous in practice.

Hopefully this helps the Buckeyes realize just how foolish their aims are. At the very least, it should keep the rivalry juices flowing smoothly ahead of their Nov. 30 matchup this year.

Michigan may have only won once out on the gridiron since 2004, but they definitely took home the victory over Ohio State on social media on Wednesday.
