This Dolphins Starter Will Be the First to Lose His Job in 2020

One of the worst aspects of a bad Miami Dolphins team in 2019 was their offensive line, regarded by some as the worst in the entire league. Be it Ryan Fitzpatrick or Tua Tagovailoa under center, Brian Flores needed to upgrade this unit this time around.

One of the worst offenders was 2019 third-rounder Michael Deiter. The former Wisconsin star made a name for himself in Madison to his versatility, but he was routinely beat up on the interior, as he seemed overmatched by the power and physicality of the NFL at times.

With new signing Ereck Flowers holding down the left guard spot, Deiter will need to compete with two others for the right guard spot, as he is not guaranteed a starting spot past the first few games.

Not only did the Dolphins use the pick acquired in the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade on an offensive lineman, specifically USC left tackle Austin Jackson, but Miami used a second and fourth-rounder on Louisiana mauler Robert Hunt and Georgia bulldozer Solomon Kindley, respectively. Both of these prospects have a higher ceiling than Deiter, which should accelerate their ascension to the starting lineup.

Hunt will eventually hold down a starting role, and Kindley's power helping him dominate the SEC could force him into a starting role as well. Unless Deiter proves himself in training camp, the new additions could push this former Badger to the bench.
