Mets Will Call Up Carlos Gomez to Replace Michael Conforto

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Michael Conforto suffered a concussion after a collision with Robinson Cano. He was down on the deck for a series of moments, and had a hard time getting up. It was briefly a scary scene.

With that, the New York Mets sent Conforto to the injured list, which cleared a roster spot for outfielder Carlos Gomez to come up from the minors. He was informed after Thursday's game that he would join the Mets in Miami for their three-game set against the Marlins.

Gomez's call-up has been long due, as he's hitting .270 with six homers and 22 runs batted in through 35 games in the minors. It's a good thing that they're calling him up, as Keon Broxton is absolutely not the answer for the Mets in right field. He's hitting an ugly .143 with zero homers and 2 RBI through 49 at-bats. He hasn't had a lot of playing time, and there's absolutely a reason for that.

There's a huge chance that when Conforto comes back, Gomez stays on the roster and the Mets send Broxton to Triple-A. The Mets are in need of a spark to get their team back up to speed, as they're just 20-22, 3.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. They cannot let themselves sink into mediocrity, and going with Gomez is a step in the right direction.
