October 27, 1986 remains one of the greatest days in New York Sports history. While the New York Mets defeating the Boston Red Sox and winning the World Series is obviously the highlight of the night, the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants were taking on Joe Gibbs and a loaded Washington Redskins team on Monday Night Football at the same time. When Ray Knight put the Mets ahead 4-3 with a solo home run, Giants Stadium erupted in cheers, which forced Redskins left tackle Joe Jacoby to jump offsides.

The Giants ended up winning this game as well, as 420 passing yards from Jay Schroeder, 241 of which went to Gary Clark, weren't enough to overcome two costly interceptions and 181 yards on the ground from Giants running back Joe Morris.

The Giants' success didn't stop here, as they shut the Redskins out in the NFC Championship Game and defeated the Broncos in the Super Bowl to cap off one of the greatest seasons in NFL history.

In a time when New York sports teams can't get out of their own way, with the Giants and Mets serving as shining examples of how not to run a team over the last half decade, New Yorkers love reminiscing over the days when they ruled both the baseball and football worlds.
