The proverbial white smoke has been seen at Roosevelt Avenue, and the New York Mets finally have another manager.

After the Mets fired Mickey Callaway following two disappointing seasons, they have imported former All-Star outfielder Carlos Beltran to be the 22nd manager in team history.

And with that, the normally hard-to-please Mets fan base jumps for joy.

Beltran, who made nine All-Star teams in his 20-year playing career, hit 149 of his 435 career home runs with the Mets. He spent bits of seven seasons in Queens overall. After he announced his retirement as a player in 2017, he finally got his start in the administrative side of baseball in 2018, when he was named as a special advisor to New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman.

Beltran beat out ESPN analyst Eduardo Perez and Twins bench coach Derek Shelton for the job.

Beltran is a complete wild card due to his lack of past MLB coaching experience, but the Mets needed a fresh, new thinker who can handle the New York media, and Beltran checks those boxes. Hopefully he can do something with a talented group of players, rather than disappoint day in and day out like Callaway did.
