Mets Scout Who Found Pete Alonso is Leaving the Organization

Pete Alonso was nearly the unanimous rookie of the year for the National League in 2019, following a campaign where he hit 53 home runs and drove in 120 runs for the Mets.

Now, the man responsible for bringing the "Polar Bear" to the Big Apple is leaving the organization.

Jon Updike was named Scout of the Year for the organization in 2018, but he'll now be working for BaseballCloud, a third party scouting organization with a focus on technological integration into college baseball.

While this is far from the end of the world for the team, losing a baseball mind like Updike can only hurt the team's scouting department, especially since the Mets typically don't possess a top farm system on a yearly basis.

Believe it or not, Alonso was a second-round pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, quickly ascending through the minor leagues on the strength of his right-handed power. As for Updike, he'll be attached to Alonso's success forever, which isn't a bad booster to have on your resume.
