Universe Helps Mets Honor 9/11 With Absolutely Insane Numerical Coincidence in Wednesday Win

On Wednesday night, America and the world honored the memories of those lost during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2011.

The sports world did its part, with teams across MLB each partaking in unique and touching gestures to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the deadly tragedy. The New York Mets, on the other hand, did something totally involuntary (we presume), that proves the universe was smiling down on them.

Jeff McNeil and Todd Frazier each homered twice, helping the Amazins defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-0, and in arguably the most stunning numerical coincidences we've seen, the club from Queens finished the dub with 9 runs on 11 hits.

Anybody else just get the chills? Even if Mickey Callaway's squad wanted to, they could have never, in 100 tries, pulled off those exact numbers sequentially in the box score.

Perhaps it good karma stemming from Pete Alonso's ordering his teammates customized cleats to honor the memories of those who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, but even that scenario is outlandish.

18 years ago, Mike Piazza helped a country heal with a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning at Shea Stadium in the Mets' first game back in New York following the attacks. It's only fitting that today's bizarre and equally awesome coincidence happened to the Amazins this time around.
