Mel Kiper Suggests the Redskins Draft Tua Tagovailoa Over Chase Young at No. 2 in All-Time Terrible Take

Leave it to Mel Kiper to create a scenario in which the Washington Redskins somehow pass on Ohio State defensive end Chase Young in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Kiper claimed the Redskins should take Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at No. 2 overall just three weeks after saying there's no way they should pass on Young. Kiper says the Skins could just trade Tagovailoa if he doesn't beat out Dwayne Haskins, not realizing that would be wasting a first-round pick.

So...that's ridiculous in more ways than one.

Across seven starts in which he had one good receiver, no offensive line, and a fossil in Bill Callahan as his coach, Haskins threw seven touchdowns against three interceptions while winning two games, all the while making the transition from a one-word system at Ohio State to a notoriously wordy West Coast offense. Haskins should be getting praised and supported from every corner of the organization, not bombarded with rumors the team could draft a quarterback.

Furthermore, Young is the safest defensive prospect to come into the draft since Jadeveon Clowney in 2014. Taking him would get you a guy who's ready to start on Day 1 and will (hopefully) be among the best pass rushers in all of football for a decade. To even think of not taking him and instead picking a quarterback would be utterly insane for Washington.

The Redskins should be giving Haskins every opportunity to succeed, not bailing on him after seven starts. The clear No. 1 player in this draft will be there at pick No. 2, so take your Pro Bowl pass rusher and try to add pieces on offense to help Haskins in free agency. This really isn't that hard.
