Megan Rapinoe scored two goals against Spain to propel the United States to the World Cup quarterfinals, but that was hardly the news of the day surrounding the star soccer player.

Rapinoe has come under fire for not singing the national anthem during the 2019 Women's World Cup. She has been inspired by Colin Kaepernick's acts of defiance against Donald Trump, and feels a responsibility to give her own brand of rebellious behavior against the Commander-In-Chief.

She's deciding to take a stand with the platform she's been given.

"I feel like it's kind of defiance in and of itself to just be who I am and wear the jersey, and represent it," she said. "So it's kind of a good 'F you' to any sort of inequality or bad sentiments that the [Trump] administration might have towards people who don't look exactly like him."

Rapinoe has also announced that she will reject an invitation to visit the White House should the U.S. Women's Team once again win the World Cup. Although she was open to the idea of going to Washington and meeting with members of government, President Trump has ruined that for her.

“I am not going to fake it, hobnob with the president, who is clearly against so many of the things that I am [for] and so many of the things that I actually am. I have no interest in extending our platform to him.”

Whether you support her cause or not, her feeling of obligation to stick up for what she believes in is commendable.
