Matt Nagy's Offseason Tactics Are Wearing Thin

I understand motivating your players, especially if your season ended in gut-wrenching fashion like it did for the Chicago Bears, who appeared to have a playoff win in hand, but ended their journey with a missed field goal by kicker Cody Parkey after it hit the upright twice.

However, what Bears head coach Matt Nagy is doing to "memorialize" that loss is somewhat crazy.

I'm sure most players on the Bears want to forget about that loss and move on. But that's impossible, as Nagy has been showing clips of the loss, including the Double Doink, during team meetings.

"He'll show it throughout team meetings that we have in the mornings so that the whole team can see it," Bears running back Tarik Cohen told Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio

"He just shows us the last seconds of the game," Cohen said. "He shows us the crowd's reaction, our reactions from the sideline, and he just tells you, 'Never forget that hurt,' you know, and that we want to get back to that place and have a different outcome. So that drives us and motivates to get through practice every day."

I understand Nagy showing clips of that playoff loss, including the missed kick, one time through when camp starts to make a point of wanting that hurt and pain to fuel you. But how many times can you show that without the players checking out?

This isn't his only extreme emphasis of the offseason, of course. He's put his kickers through public displays of replicating the season-ender last year, and it's rarely worked; they just keep missing.

Maybe this is the perfect direction to get the most out of this team in 2019-2020, but it seems like a little much.
