This news is practically guaranteed to leave Seattle Mariners fans (and select Midwesterners) with a smile on their faces.

The organization announced on Wednesday that they signed utility infielder/outfielder Patrick Wisdom, close friend of Mariners left-hander Marco Gonzales, to a one-year contract. The transaction leaves Seattle just one player shy of completing their 40-man roster.

Wisdom spent last season the Rangers after appearing in 32 games for the Cardinals in 2018. The 28-year-old did most of his damage in Texas with Triple-A Nashville, where he clubbed 31 home runs and 74 RBI across 107 games.

He eventually got the call up to MLB, but only appeared in nine games with the Rangers, mustering four hits in 26 plate appearances, equating to a lowly .154 average.

Despite his struggles, Wisdom undoubtedly enjoyed his brief big league stint in 2019, as he was presented the opportunity to square off against Gonzales. Unfortunately for Wisdom, his old pal got the best of him by painting a fastball on the black.

We can't be certain, but something tells us that countless pranks between Wisdom and Gonzales will materialize within the Mariners clubhouse through the winter and into the 2020 campaign.

After all, not many professional athletes can say they are teammates with one of their buds from their younger days.
