Luke Voit Explains Why He Gave Up His No. 45 Jersey to Gerrit Cole

The New York Yankees signing Gerrit Cole was one of the top stories of the offseason.
The newest Yankee joined the team and fans may have noticed he's once again wearing the No. 45. That's thanks to Luke Voit giving up the number to allow Cole to have it. Voit explained how it clearly meant more to Cole and he was happy to switch.
Luke Voit still won't say what Gerrit Cole gave him for No. 45:

"45 was hanging in my locker when showed up and I got traded here so it wasn't anything special for me. I knew he had been with 45 since he was in Pittsburgh, so I was happy to give it to him."
And we are all left wondering what Cole gave Voit in exchange for the number. Someone who signed a deal worth over $300 million surely has some extra cash lying around. Then again, it seems Voit didn't care that much, so perhaps he's just a nice guy. He said it was just a number to him while it was more of an identity for Cole.
The first baseman is now sporting No. 59.
It's so weird seeing Luke Voit wear No. 59. #Yankees

This couldn't have been a better way for Cole to be introduced to the Yankees and the team's chemistry. Everything's already on point with spring training only just beginning!
