Once upon a time, Ed Orgeron was a college football pariah after winning just 10 games in three seasons at Ole Miss. In 2019, he's the best coach in the entire country.

Orgeron was named the 2019 AP Coach of the Year just days after being named Home Depot Coach of the Year following LSU's triumph in the SEC Championship game.

Orgeron, led by Heisman-winning quarterback Joe Burrow, guided the Tigers to a perfect 13-0 record and a No. 1 ranking in the College Football Playoff.

Orgeron waited nearly a decade between head coaching jobs, with his most recent stint before this coming when he went 6-2 as interim head coach at USC. Ultimately, USC chose Clay Helton over him, and Orgeron ended up in Baton Rouge, where he helped dethrone Nick Saban and Alabama this season.

Orgeron went from the goofy loudmouth with the gravely Cajun accent to the orchestrater of the most dominant team in the country with a shot at a title. If that doesn't get you a Coach of the Year award, I truly don't know what will.
