The LSU Tigers had sported the commitment from class of 2020 defensive tackle CamRon Jackson since late in 2018. Jackson is from Louisiana, and picked the Bayou Bengals over other offers from top schools including Alabama, Florida, and Baylor.

That is why Wednesday's latest news was eye-opening for fans of the national champs. Afteer delaying signing his letter of intent as he attended to academic issues, Jackson flipped his commitment to the Memphis Tigers.

Jackson, a 3-star recruit and a top-40 defensive tackle in the nation per 247Sports, is heading up to Memphis to play for new coach Ryan Silverfield. He joins a program that made it to the Cotton Bowl last year under the leadership of Mike Norvell.

LSU, after a season of so many big wins, will be forced to take an unfortunate L here.

Jackson stands 6-5 and is listed at just over 270 pounds. His academic issues certainly played some part in this recent decision, but regardless, Ed Orgeron may be left wondering how his national championship squad managed to lose an in-state recruit for any reason. Of course, the team's 2020 class still ended up ranked fourth overall by 247Sports, and the program is in great shape as it embarks on a spirited title defense.
