LSU and Ed Orgeron Reportedly Agree to Monstrous 6-Year Contract Extension

LSU picked up its first national championship win in over a decade, and the main architect of that success just earned himself quite the payday.
Head coach Ed Orgeron, who has gone 40-9 as LSU head coach, agreed to a six-year contract extension in the neighborhood of $42 million. Insider Bruce Feldman broke the news on Friday morning.

Orgeron was the defensive line coach in Baton Rouge in 2016, but he was named the head coach after Les Miles was fired. This hire was scorned by many in the south given the fact that he won just 10 games in three seasons at Ole Miss from 2005-2007. After moving to USC and absorbing some of Pete Carroll's knowledge, a revamped Orgeron was ready to win championships with the Tigers.
Behind an offensive savant in passing game coordinator Joe Brady and a future No. 1 overall pick in Heisman winner Joe Burrow at quarterback, LSU's offense was a record-setting group that averaged 48.4 points per game. After taking down Trevor Lawrence and Clemson, Orgeron proved that this LSU team was one of the great teams in college football history.

Orgeron was not the most popular hire when LSU replaced Miles with him, but he's proven to be nothing short of a home run.
He won't have Burrow, Brady, or Dave Aranda in 2020, but Orgeron should still lead LSU to another successful season given how he's cleaned up on the recruiting trail and has NFL bodies at every position.
