Angels' Busy Offseason Continues With Signing of Former Twins Catcher Jason Castro

The Los Angeles Angels are sparing no expense this offseason in an effort to compete for a World Series in 2020.
Signing Anthony Rendon was the big move. And though a one-year deal for Julio Tehran also looms large this winter, the team has also brought in a new catcher in Jason Castro to bolster the ranks.
Catcher Jason Castro and the Los Angeles Angels are in agreement on a one-year, $6.85M deal, pending physical, sources tell ESPN. Castro rounds out an Angels lineup that added Anthony Rendon and should have top outfield prospect Jo Adell in the big leagues early this season.

Another one-year deal is perfect for the Angels as the team has to get creative with several huge contracts on the payroll. Castro is 32 years old, and spent the last three seasons with the Minnesota Twins. Before that, he was in Houston for six years.
In adding Anthony Rendon, Dylan Bundy, Julio Teheran and Jason Castro this offseason, the Angels have clearly made themselves better going into 2020. Of course, much of the criticism about their offseason is about what they haven’t done. They still need to keep adding pitching.

The veteran was an All-Star with the Astros in 2013 but has not played in a full-time role since 2017, as he dealt with injuries the past two seasons. A figure around $7 million is nothing for a team like the Angels, and while there is some risk with Castro, the team is not going to be financially pained if he doesn't pan out.
